Screening Date Time Synopsis
26-Aug-2017 06:30 PM Set in the insurgency-hit Kashmir of 1995, Haider is a re-imagination of Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, where Denmark is replaced with a heavily militarized Kashmir under the strict surveillance of the Indian Army. Haider (Shahid Kapoor) returns home from Aligarh Muslim University to find out that his politically-neutral father, Hilal Meer (Narendra Jha) has been abducted by the Army (following the discovery that he operated on an insurgent) and that his mother, Ghazala (Tabu) is in a relationship with his father’s brother, Khurram (Kay Kay Menon), who, Haider later realizes, is responsible for his father’s disappearance and death. What follows is a tale of revenge, deception and lunacy that projects the troubles and vicissitudes of the cultural milieu of the disputed land it is set in, including extra-judicial killings, military torture and mass disappearances.
