22-Aug-2017 06:30 PM Based on Khushwant Singh’s novel of the same title, the film revolves around the interconnected destinies of two lovers, Juggut Singh (Nirmal Pandey) and Nooran (Smriti Mishra), of Sikh and Muslim faiths respectively, in the village of Mano Majra, which is situated near the railway line running across the India-Pakistan border and is known for its communal harmony. The Partition of 1947 brings about a drastic change in the village routine as the Muslims of the village start to migrate towards Pakistan. The calm of the village is stirred when a “ghost train” arrives from Pakistan carrying the dead bodies of Hindus and Sikhs who were on their way to India. What follows is a harrowing tale of human suffering and bravery that throws light on the machinations of communal riots and their resultant aftermath as a product of human intrigue.
